TSOTS: Lab Report

Hypothesis: If music affects the germination of seeds, then the seeds exposed to Post Malone’s music will germinate faster. Control: The type of seeds,  number of seeds, and environment Variable: Type of music/no music Justification of hypothesis: Post Malone’s music is faster and will vibrate the seeds more and they’ll grow faster. We wanted to test this because music sometimes helps us work so it might help plants grow. Why did you choose this as your hypothesis? We chose this as our hypothesis because we thought the vibrations of Post Malone’s more intense music would shake the plants out of the seeds. Procedure: Materials: 45 broccoli seeds 3 solo cups Saran wrap Two sets of earphones Two phones for playing music Misted Water Paper towels Steps: Assemble “Seed Growing Area” Use rubber bands to make two layers of saran wrap (the first layer with a small dip in the middle for the seeds and the second needs to be tig...

About Me: Hope Vela

I am Hope Vela. I've lived in San Jose, California my whole life. Most of my family lives in Sacramento because that is where my dad grew up so my parents, my brother, and I go there a lot. One of my best friends and I have been neighbors our whole lives so our families are basically one family. I recently planted a bunch of succulents, some strawberries, bell peppers, and jalepenos in pots in my yard. Before that, however, my family used to grow tomatoes, zucchini, carrots, green beans, broccoli, and artichokes. We don't really cook big extravagant meals but I do now how to cook simple things. I learned how to cook from both of my parents but also online with recipes. My grandma knows how to cook really well because she makes food for my Grandpa and she likes to be fancy about it.

About Me: Clare Robke

My name is Clare Robke. I was born in Redwood City, California and stayed there until I was one. Then, my mom and dad and baby me moved to Blaine, Minnesota where my dad's entire family lives so my mom could focus on getting her PhD. We stayed there until I was three and my little sister was one before moving back to California, San Jose specifically. I do not really garden, and my only experience was in 4th grade for my science fair project. I was also analyzing seed germination, but with a different experiment involving different colored light. I grew dill plants, and I remember it went smoothly and was a fun, different experience. No one in my family gardens or has experience making food from scratch, so I'm very excited to be doing this because, like I said, it is fun and not something I do or am exposed to very much.

About Me: Stephanie Wright

My name is Stephanie Wright and I have lived in San Jose, California since I was born. I attended Hacienda Environmental Science Magnet, meaning I was exposed to gardening. Every year, each class had their own garden bed, so we would plant and harvest plants every season. In fifth grade, my teacher had us garden with hydroponics and aquaponics, which was something new for everyone. We mainly grew carrots and lettuce. My fifth grade teacher knew an extensive amount about gardening, but other than that, I don't think I know anyone who has a lot of experience with gardening. I think this project could end up being fun, since I haven't gardened in a while.

About Me: Abbie Weimer

My name is Abbie Weimer. I've lived in California for my entire life. I went to school in Livermore up until fourth grade, which is when I moved to San Jose and transferred schools. I have gardened and grown food before. We used to grow peppers at my house, and I've helped my grandmother with her garden. I enjoyed watering the plants, and watching them sprout into the food I love to eat. It is a lot of responsibility, but it is so worth it! My Nani (grandmother) knows a lot about gardening.  She has a huge section of her backyard dedicated to her vegetables, and she has at least five fruits trees. Every time me and my brothers visit her, she takes us out back to water and pull weeds. Nani also makes a lot of her own food, and cooks everyday. She has taught me things like how to properly chop onions, and when to stir food on the stove. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't be interested in gardening.
