        Given that I haven't seen our plant since we first planted it into the soil, I noticed many changes in our broccoli plant. It split into four sections that all ranch off from the main stem. Each section has varying sizes of one dark green leaf, with lighter green veins, on the end of it. It's about 4.5 inches tall.

        Our plant participates in the movement of water in the biosphere by taking in water from the soil through its roots, changing it into vapor, and then releasing that vapor back into the atmosphere. This process is called transpiration. This role in the water cycle relates to the changes I noticed in our plant because all plants use water in the process of photosynthesis to make their food, which is how our broccoli is able to grow and develop its green leaves.

        Our plant participates in the movement of carbon in the biosphere by taking in the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, turning it into energy through photosynthesis, and releasing oxygen into the air instead. Then, when the plant dies, decomposers will break it down and release its carbon back into the atmosphere. This role in the carbon cycle relates to the changes I noticed in our plant because, like water, plants use carbon in photosynthesis to make their food, get energy, and grow and develop.

        Our plant participates in the movement of nitrogen in the biosphere by taking in nitrates (nitrogen molecules converted into ammonia and then into nitrates by bacteria) in the soil and using them to make proteins. If our plant gets eaten, when the animal that consumed it dies, decomposers will break it down and release its nitrogen back into the air just like what happens with carbon. If our plant doesn't get eaten, it will still die eventually. Then, they same thing will happen to it that happens to a dead animal. This role in the nitrogen cycle relates to the changes I noticed in our plant because nitrogen is a major component in chlorophyll which is crucial to photosynthesis and nitrogen is also an important part of amino acids which make proteins. Without these proteins, our plant would weaken and die, and since our plant is healthy and strong, nitrogen is clearly playing a role in the changes in our broccoli plant.
